From the hands of Professor Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío, constitutional governor of the state of Baja California Sur, and Master Octavio Almada Palafox, National Commissioner of Aquaculture and Fishing, the company HUL KIN was awarded the First Place of the Award that recognizes innovations and best practices in the development of the fishing sector, as well as the positive impact on communities and marine resources.
The award highlighted the company HULKIN as a beacon of excellence, demonstrating that it is possible to harmonize economic progress with environmental conservation.
For the CEO of the company, Moisés Rosado Castillo, a marketing professional graduated from the Tecnológico de Monterrey with 15 years of work experience in the fishing industry, the natural balance is clear without compromising resources.
We create new ways to innovate in the sustainable business environment. By working together with the government and civil society, we impact our social and environmental challenges to positively change the lives of many people on this planet,” he said.
HUL KIN has innovated with the platform Pulpo Maya where it presents its 3 pillars for its clients: Sustainability, Traceability, and Supreme Quality.
The company was founded in 1986, by Leonel Rosado Mena and María del Pilar Castillo Ojeda. Currently, their children Moisés Rosado Castillo, Josué Rosado Castillo, and Aarón Rosado Castillo promote sustainable fishing as the only viable option, actively supporting the fishing improvement project of the Maya Octopus (FIP), which encourages fishing without affecting the survival of the captured species or those with which they share the ecosystem.
With a global presence, HUL KIN is a driver of change, promoting private sector solutions for the transition to a sustainable, responsible, inclusive, and prosperous fishing industry,” states Aarón Rosado Castillo, an international trade specialist with work experience in Japan and the United States, a graduate of Harvard Business School and studies at the Tecnológico de Monterrey," he noted.
The company looks out for the people who depend directly and indirectly on the Maya Octopus fishery, so that future generations can continue to have access to the resource and to decent living conditions.
100% of the sustainable fishing of the Maya Octopus carried out by HUL KIN is done using the Jimba and Gareteo method with a private fleet of coastal vessels, which protect the Fishing Refuge Zone of Celestún, Yucatán, which aims to be a space for the conservation and sustainable use of the marine species in the region. The Fishing Refuge Zone of Celestún represents the most important strategy for conserving the biodiversity of fish species.
We believe that the seafood industry is in a unique position to become one of the most resource and energy-efficient sectors of the global food industry. However, it is clear that there are still significant obstacles to achieving this goal,” concluded Josué Rosado Castillo, specialist in Sustainable Products and Healthy Lifestyle.
